Shirakawago Shishimai

A lion (shishi) consists of a head and a cloak (yutan) that is supported by bamboo sticks inside. Commonly four to six dancers perform the dance but earlier seven to eight dancers did it a centipede lion dance (mukade jishi). The dance tells us a legend of two boys who win a battle against a lion using a Japanese sword and halberd.
